Your Initial Evaluation
The initial evaluation will last approximately one hour, during which you will work only with your own physical therapist. The therapist will ask you questions about your medical history, symptoms, and functional limitations. Your therapist will then perform a physical examination and evaluate your posture, active and passive range of motion, and strength; then perform special neurological and orthopedic tests, check your ligament integrity and joint mobility, look at your biomechanics and finally review any X-ray or MRI reports.
Your Treatment
Once the evaluation is complete your therapist will design a “tissue specific” treatment program that matches your tissue injury or dysfunction. At Physical Therapy Specialists our treatment emphasis is on manual physical therapy, supervised medical exercise and education. Your therapist will answer all of your questions related to what activities you should or should not perform during your rehabilitation. You may also be given home exercises to assist you in acheiving your goals.
Our rehabilitation approach first focuses on decreasing pain, edema and muscle guarding to improve joint motion. As you improve, your exercise program will be progressed to fit your needs for coordination, retraining motor patterns, balance, endurance, speed and strength training. We can assist you with the transition form exercise for rehabilitation to exercise for health maintenance, weight loss, cardiovascular improvement, return to work and even high level athletic performance.
Insurance Coverage
Most insurance companies require a physician referral or prescription to cover services. Please check with your insurance company to determine your physical therapy benefits. Almost all plans have physical therapy coverage. We are preferred with most major insurance carriers. In case your insurance does not cover our services, we have several affordable financing options to help you stay within your budget. As a service to our patients, we will verify benefits with your insurance plan so that you are informed of coverage details before treatment.
